Fasting
CPL certification requires a blood test initially and at every 5th birthday from 25 years onwards (30, 35, 40 etc).
As blood must be taken while fasting, you must not eat anything for 8-10 hours prior to your medical.
Pathology (blood tests) will incur extra expense.
If you have any questions regarding the need to fast please contact Dr Priti Bhatt directly on 0419 490 588 or email priti@samcen.com.au
Urine Test
A urine specimen is required for Pilot Medicals. Should you need to go to the toilet prior seeing the doctor please request a sample jar for the specimen.
Eye Test
Initial CPL applicants require a one-off eye examination conducted by a DAO (designated aviation ophthalmologist).
You must organise this eye test separately.
Payment
You can not claim the cost of medicals from medicare or health funds.
Please make sure you bring with you:
Photo ID (Driver's License or Passport)
Name of your regular GP and Dentist
Any medical reports requested after your last aviation medical if applicable (this will save you time)
You will also be asked your Total Flying Hours and Hours Flown in the Past 6 Months
About the Medical
The medical is aimed at finding any possible sources of sudden incapacitation.
Potential causes are many and varied and include:
Severe pain (from any organ-migraine, chest pain, kidney pain etc)
Any condition affected by pressure/volume and oxygen changes at altitude eg. Middle ear problems, hernia, untreated lung condition(asthma).
Certain conditions that may be incompatible with flying either temporarily (recovery after surgery, infection) or some with limitation after recovery e.g. after a Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT).
You do need to notify CASA of any new condition you have or new medication you’re placed on and not fly or perform Air Traffic Controlling duties until you’re cleared by a DAME.
Please Note:
We are female doctors. Should you wish to have a chaperone for your examination, please arrange for a suitable relative or friend to attend with you.
If you are renewing your medical within 28 days of expiry, your renewal date will remain the same.
If you book too early it brings the date of renewal of your medical forwards. Please keep this in mind when making your appointment.
